Upsilon Sigma Phi Celebrates meaningful centennial

Last Nov. 18,2018 that Upsilon Sigma Phi celebrated its 100th founding anniversary at the Philippine International Convention Center. The Ball was an all Upsilon production which featured broadway inspired productions and songs by acclaimed tenors Lemuel Cuento and Dondi Ong.

Unbeknownst to most however, the Upsilon Sigma Phi had engaged several national outreach programs throughout the centennial year to help the most needy of Filipinos. They went to far off places like Al Barka town in Basilan and Lahing Lahing in Sulu to provide playgrounds, school buildings and medical services. In Luzon, water pumps were built in lumad/aeta areas to provide them with potable drinking water. Trees were likewise planted in aid of reforestation efforts being done by the DENR.

Upsilon lawyer members also conducted legal outreach programs for barangays where they taught lectures on women’s rights, leadership training and women’s abuse. In most, they provided free legal services to those who have been abused experienced abuse from their husbands. The programs were part of the training provided by their elders/alumni to the newly minted lawyers and aspiring lawyers of the fraternity to expose them to the service oriented nature of the organization. Upsilon Sigma Phi conducts this yearly activity but has been multiplied 10 times over for the centennial year celebrations.

All in all the advocacies reached over 100 communities across the Philippines and provided amenities, care and benefits to their residents.
